The Juniata girls soccer team routed Upper Dauphin yesterday, 14-1. Josie Swartz scored four times for the Indians. Makenzi Beward added three goals. Maci Kreider had two, as did Lilli Reed and Sydney Sheaffer.

The Mifflin County boys soccer team, meanwhile, cruised past Harrisburg, 9-1. Ross Cottrill and Reese Carter scored a pair of goals each for the Huskies. The Mifflin County girls lost to West Perry, 3-0.

Mifflin County’s field hockey team nipped Central Dauphin, 2-1. Baylee Lepley scored in the first half before Keni Kahley’s second half goal became the eventual game-winner.

The Huskies golf team went 1-4 during a Mid-Penn match at Riverview Golf Club yesterday. Zack Weader was low scorer for Mifflin County, carding a 91 on the day. Ty Ferencz shot a career-best 96 for the Huskies.

For the second time in a row, third time in six games, the Pirates were shut out. Milwaukee beat the Bucs last night, 7-0. The Phillies, who were off yesterday, play the Marlins today.

In a Monday Night Football double feature, Minnesota beat New Orleans, 29-19. And a blocked field goal with just seconds to play allowed Denver to hold on and beat the Los Angeles Chargers, 24-21.

Thanks in part to another win over Stanford, Penn State has moved up to #2 in the latest women’s volleyball poll. The Lions beat the Cardinal when they were ranked first and then again this past weekend, when they were ranked fourth. Penn State is 7-0 on the year.

And, in a junior varsity football game, Brian Smirk scored a pair of touchdowns but it wasn’t quite enough as Cedar Cliff edged Mifflin County, 21-20.
