Just two days after winning 8-0, East Juniata’s girls soccer team beat Juniata again, 3-0 this time. The Tigers are now 14-1-1 on the year. EJ’s boys also won, avenging an earlier 4-0 defeat to Greenwood. Seth Strawser scored the game’s only goal. Mike Ryan with 10 saves in net for the Tigers. Elsewhere, Tad Shellenberger scored four goals and added a pair of assists as Juniata cruised past Susquenita in boys action, 9-2. Mifflin County’s girls fell to Lower Dauphin, 3-0.

In area field hockey, Mifflin County edged Line Mountain, 2-1. Daphne Snook scored a goal in each half for the Huskies. East Juniata also won, besting Lancaster Country Day, 3-0. Frances Brubaker had two more goals for EJ. Laney Dowling also scored for the Tigers.

Three more touchdown passes from Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz helped Philly get past Carolina last night, 28-23. The Eagles are 5-1 while the Panthers drop to 4-2. The Steelers play at 4:25 Sunday, taking on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Tonight, Mifflin County hits the road to play Northern York. Juniata hosts Halifax. East Juniata is at Pine Grove. Newport travels to Line Mountain. Huntingdon welcomes in Philipsburg-Osceloa. Mount Union plays host to Bellwood-Antis. Southern Huntingdon is also at home, taking on Everett. And Juniata Valley is at Moshannon Valley.

Also this evening, the American League Championship Series, that best-of-seven between Houston and the New York Yankees, gets underway this evening. The NLCS starts tomorrow when the L.A. Dodgers host the defending champion Chicago Cubs. Chicago outlasted Washington in Game Five of their series last night, 9-8.

The Pens lost night night. Tampa Bay picked up the win at home, 5-4.

And NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series is at Talladega this Sunday afternoon. Martin Truex, Jr. leads the playoff standings with six races to go this year.
