Two former area players shared the court last night, when York College played Messiah in women’s college basketball. Former Juniata star and current York senior Victoria Varner scored three points while Falcons freshman and Mifflin County alum Eleana Eckley went scoreless but still played 16 minutes in her college debut. Spartans with the upset, 69-66.

East Juniata’s girls soccer team plays Conwell Egan in the PIAA quarterfinals. Greenwood’s field hockey team, meanwhile, will play Sacred Heart, also in the state quarters.

Also tomorrow, two more former area standouts play for Messiah in the NCAA playoffs. Mifflin County’s Kezia Loht and the Falcons field hockey team take on Endicott in second round action. East Juniata alum Trevor Goodling and the Messiah men’s soccer team play Baruch in first round play.

The Steelers have won five in a row with last night’s 52-21 win over visiting Carolina. The Eagles play on Sunday night, hosting the Dallas Cowboys.

The Flyers tied it late in the third before winning in overtime, beating Arizona last night, 5-4.

The Penn State Lady Lions won their season opener, coming back to beat Providence, 74-72. The Lion men open tonight against North Florida.

A rematch of last year’s Big 10 championship game when Penn State plays Wisconsin tomorrow at noon. The Lions have won three straight against the Badgers. Also tomorrow, Juniata College plays Susquehanna in its season finale. The Eagles are winless on the year.

And NASCAR’s Monster Energy Series is in Phoenix this Sunday afternoon. This is the last race to earn a spot in the Championship Four. Only Joey Logano has clinched a berth so far.
