On the first day of the PIAA Class 3A championships, Trent Hidlay (170 pounds) dominated Jesse Quatse of Greensburg-Salem in a first round match, winning a 19-4 technical fall in the third period. Also a winner in the opening bracket was Christian Fisher (113 pounds), who took on Nazareth’s Andrew Smith in a 9-2 victory. Freshman Trey Kibe (152) lost his opener but is still wrestling in the consolation bracket, while sophomore Derek Burk (120) lost a pair and was eliminated. Mount Union’s Andrew Todaro and Josh Boozel both hit the championship bracket, Boozel becoming the school record holder for career wins in his lone match. At 220 pounds, Mount Union’s Jake Ryan (220) is into quarterfinals along with Huntingdon’s Landon Fisher (220).
Juniata’s Tyler Wileman is the other quarterfinalist from the region. He and Todaro will square off for a final four berth today. Still wrestling, in the consolation bracket are Juniata’s Tyler Feltman, Midd-West’s Avery Bassett and Levi Hockenberry of Mount Union. Huntingdon’s Ryder Kocik (182) and Southern Huntingdon’s Kole Winfield (285) are in the consolation bracket too. Alex Mykut (195) of Huntingdon was eliminated.

In the NHL, Brad Marchand scored with 22 seconds left in the third period to lift Boston over the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2.

Hassan Whiteside scored 26 points, Dwyane Wade added 16 and the Miami Heat moved a step closer to the playoffs by beating the Philadelphia 76ers 108-99.

During spring training, the Yankees accumulated six runs against one from the Phillies, but they managed to give it all up in the end with Philadelphia taking a 7-6 victory.

The Pirates did not disappoint either, beating the Detroit Tigers, 8-3.
