The NCAA wrestling tournament gets underway in Pittsburgh at noon today. The championships will also have a few local athletes compete. Mifflin County alum Hayden Hidlay, a redshirt sophomore for North Carolina State and the defending NCAA runner-up, is back at 157. Another former Husky, Noah Stewart, competes for Army West Point at 184. And Huntingdon alum Jacob Oliver will wrestle at 174 pounds, representing Edinboro University. Penn State, meanwhile, has nine wrestlers in this year’s field. The Lions have won seven of the last eight team championships.

Also today, the NCAA men’s basketball tournament gets started in earnest. Defending national champ Villanova starts its bid to try and repeat today. Sixth-seeded in the Midwest, the Wildcats take on 11-seed Saint Mary’s this evening at 7:20.

Mifflin County alum Isaac Maclay went two-for-seven with an RBI, a run scored and a double for Juniata College, as the Eagles split with Penn State – Altoona, losing 3-0 and winning 8-7 in a walkoff.

In Major League Baseball spring training, the Pirates edged Minnestota, 6-5, while the Phillies fell to Detroit, 3-1.

Joel Embiid with 37 points and a career-high 22 rebounds as the Sixers finally beat Boston for the first time this season, 118-115 last evening.

Tonight, the Pens and Flyers hit the ice. Pittsburgh is in Nashville, while Philadelphia travels to Chicago.
