Juniata High School junior Sydney Houtz captured her second medal in two tries at the PIAA swimming championships. A day after placing sixth in the 100 butterfly, Houtz took fourth overall in the 100 backstroke.

The Penguins blanked the Sabres in Buffalo, 5-0, while the Flyers took a 5-2 home loss to the Washington Capitals.

Juniata College sophomore Isaac Maclay went 3-for-7 in yesterday’s doubleheader split with Suffolk. The Mifflin County alum is tied for the team lead in hits six games into the season. He’s hitting .350 for Juniata, which is 3-3 so far this season.

Another Mifflin County alum, Lock Haven University junior Amanda Hassinger, took 11th place in the 10k at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invite in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Villanova is into the Big East tournament semifinals. The defending NCAA champions take on Xavier in today’s third round.

Penn State, meanwhile, saw its season come to an end in the Big Ten quarterfinals. The Lions finish the year four games under .500 with last night’s 77-72 loss to Minnesota.

The Pirates hammered a Phillies split quad in spring training action, 11-4. The other Fightin’s team nipped Tampa Bay, 4-3.

And NASCAR’s Monster Energy Series is out west on Sunday for the running of the Auto Club 400.
