The defending Super Bowl champion Eagles jumped out to an early 14-0 lead but New Orleans battled back, advancing to this coming Sunday’s NFC championship game with a 20-14 win over the Birds. The Saints will play the Los Angeles Rams for a berth in Super Bowl LIII, while New England, a 41-29 winner over the LA Chargers, will play in its eighth straight AFC title game, taking on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mifflin County won the Husky Duals, thanks to wins over Carlisle, Conestoga Valley and New Oxford.

Top-ranked Penn State, meanwhile, beat #19 Wisconsin in college wrestling, 24-13.

Mifflin County alum Hayden Hidlay, a redshirt sophomore for #9 North Carolina State earned a couple of weekend wins. Hidlay scored a major decision again Brown and won by first period fall against West Virginia.

A couple of former Mifflin County basketball stars had nice games over the weekend, too. Eleana Eckley with seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals for Messiah in a 64-48 win over Arcadia. And Rylie Rittenhouse scored five points to go with seven rebounds for DeSales in an 88-63 victory over Delaware Valley.

Juniata High School grad Sydney Sheaffer had a nice debut for Bloomsburg University. At an invitational out at Northern Arizona University, competing against nine other teams, including UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State and Nevada-Las Vegas, the freshman finished 11th in the high jump.

Sixth-ranked Michigan State beat Penn State’s men yesterday in college basketball, 71-66.

Ben Simmons scored 20 points, hauled down 22 rebounds and, for good measure, dished out nine assists, all in helping the Sixers win on the road yesterday. Philly 108, Knicks 105.

And the East Juniata girls are taking on Greenwood in high school basketball tonight. EJ is asking all their fans to wear white tonight.
