Mifflin County’s 15-year-old all-stars led 4-1 after five innings and were just six outs away from winning the Babe Ruth World Series title when the wheels fell off. Tallahassee, Florida scored three in the sixth and three more in the seventh to win the national championship over the boys from Mifflin County, 7-4. Mifflin County had four players named to the all-tournament team: Casey Conner, Brian Yetter, Bryce Dobson and Brycen Hassinger.

The Phillies and Mets played two yesterday and boy that did first one feel like an eternity for the Phils and their fans. New York led 15-4 after six when Philadelphia started using position players to finish this one off. Outfielder Roman Quinn allowed seven earned over one and two-thirds. Scott Kingery allowed two more over an inning and a third. 24-4 the final. The Fightin’s did get their act together for the second game, beating the Mets, 9-6. In Pittsburgh, Chicago’s Ian Happ homered in the fourth for the game’s only run as the Cubs nipped the Bucs, 1-0.

In preseason NFL action last night, New England topped the Eagles, 37-20. Green Bay took care of the Steelers, 51-34.

The Spikes and Williamsport were suspended after five, with State College leading after four, 3-0. They’ll resume that one Monday night. Altoona lost on a walk-off homer, 7-6, to New Hampshire.

The World of Outlaws take over Port Royal Speedway tomorrow night. Sunday, NASCAR’s Monster Energy Series is under the lights at Bristol.
