Mifflin County’s all-stars get Pool Play started today at the Babe Ruth World Series, out in Longview, Washington. Mifflin County will take on Tallahassee, which beat Kelso, Washington yesterday, 12-2, in five innings. First pitch is 1:30 there, 4:30 here.

The Pirates doubled up San Francisco, 10-5, in the opener of a four-game set out west. The Phillies, who had yesterday off, are also on the left coast, taking on San Diego this weekend.

In the minors, Harrisburg walked it off again Hartford, 4-3. Altoona took out Trenton, 9-7. State College outscored West Virginia, 8-7. And, speaking of the Spikes, team reps will be on Merf Radio this morning at 8:35 to talk about hosting this Tuesday night’s New York-Penn League all-star game. We’ll even be giving away four tickets to the game.

Maryland shut out Clinton County’s Keystone Little League last night, 6-0, to advance in Little League Baseball’s Mid-Atlantic championship. Maryland moves on to play New Jersey tonight, with the winner playing New York tomorrow night for a trip to South Williamsport.

A week and a day until the 5k Bee Dash for the United Way of Mifflin-Juniata, presented by Merf Radio. Make plans to join us for the run or walk next Saturday morning. You’ll be able to register the morning of the event.

And the Steelers beat the cross-state Super Bowl champion Eagles in a preseason game last night, 31-14.
