Pittsburgh Steelers chairman Dan Rooney died yesterday at the age of 84. He took over operation of the team in the 1960s from his father, Art, who founded the franchise. Rooney was also ambassador to Ireland from 2009 – 2012.

Hanley Ramierez belted a game tying two run double and then scored on Xander Bogaerts’ single to cap a wicked eighth inning yesterday. The Red Sox beating the Pirates 4-3.

The Phillies had yesterday off. This afternoon they take on the Washington Nationals in D.C.

Altoona Curves’ Kevin Kramer hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the eighth, the Curve coming out on top of Akron 3-2.

In local sports, The Huntingdon boy’s tennis team lost 6 – 1 in Altoona last night.

For softball, it was the county clash. EJ winning over Juniata 6 – 3.

And in baseball, Mifflin County traveled to Central Dauphin but didn’t take home a win. Central Dauphin beating the Huskies 8-1.
