PennDOT has announced efforts to connect the area of the Seven Mountains to the greater State College area are restarting after being shelved for more than 15 years. Governor Tom Wolf, Senator Jake Corman, and other officials made the announcement yesterday.  Stakeholders and community members in Centre County have desired a four-lane connection that would increase safety and mobility in the often-congested area.  PennDOT is committing $5 million to begin preliminary engineering on the project, which builds on improvements that have been made in the area through three phases of the Potters Mills Gap (PMG) project on Route 322.

An incident February 9th in Huntingdon County had led to the arrest of an area man.  State Police say 41-year-old Shawn Sanders of Hesston was taken into custody after an investigation into a shooting.  According to the report, Anders shot 56-year-old William Carolus of Alexandria on Main Street in Porter Township.  Charges include assault with a weapon.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro has filed a lawsuit against Verizon Communications Inc. (“Verizon”), for failing to deliver promised incentive items to consumers who enrolled in certain two-year contracts with the company.  Shapiro’s office alleges that beginning in November 2018, Verizon promoted a free Amazon Echo or Prime subscription as a bonus for signing on to a two-year contract, but customers never received, or were unable to access the link they needed to redeem their free products.  Consumers who experienced issues with Verizon’s offer for a free Echo or Amazon Prime membership, can contact the Bureau of Consumer Protection at 1-800-441-2555.

Authorities are investigating a late-January burglary in Cromwell Township, Huntingdon County.  State Police say between January 30th and 31st, someone broke into a home on Colgate Road in Shirleysburg and took a Ruger Blackhawk pistol valued at $1,200.
