The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture says state dog wardens are conducting dog license and rabies vaccination checks in twenty-three counties now through June. The program is to raise awareness of the importance of up-to-date licenses and rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats in Commonwealth communities. In April, wardens will canvass ten counties, including Huntingdon, Perry, and Centre County.  Twelve more counties are targeted for May. Crawford County will be canvassed in June.  Pennsylvania law requires all dogs three months and older to be licensed by January 1st of each year.  All dogs and non-feral cats three months of age and older must also be vaccinated against rabies.  Violators may be cited with a maximum fine of $300 per violation, plus court costs.

Pennsylvania’s Office of Attorney General recovered more than $1 billion for the Commonwealth through various efforts, including consumer and public protection, health care, financial, and tobacco enforcement, Medicaid fraud control, and tax litigation.  The Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection and Health Care Section also returned more than $9 million directly to Pennsylvania consumers through mediation and litigation efforts in 2018.
