Kitche Magak, associate professor of literature at Maseno University, in Kenya, will speak at Juniata College as part of a residency at the college’s Baker Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies that began March 11 and ends March 26.
The talk, “The Dehumanized ‘Other’: The Arts as a Counterforce to ‘Otherization’ in Kenya,” is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 22 in Sill Boardroom in the von Liebig Center for Science. Magak will talk about how the largest challenge to peacebuilding and conflict resolution in Kenya is the country’s ingrained and dehumanizing idea of “the other,” which drives many of the conflicts in the African country. The talk is free and open to the public.
