The Mifflin County girls soccer team earned their first win of the young season, improving to 1-2, with yesterday’s 3-2 victory over Central Dauphin East. The Huskies trailed 2-0 before Tori Moon scored and Jessica Bickhart tied it. The eventual game-winner came from Paige Lanciano in the 60th minute.

Also yesterday, the Mifflin County boys lost a tough 1-0 in the final minute to CD East.

The East Juniata field hockey team won, edging Lancaster Country Day, 2-1. A pair of goals from Laney Dowling won it for the Tigers.

Elsewhere, Cedar Cliff blanked the Mifflin County volleyball team, 3-0. East Juniata’s golf team finished second in a Tri-Valley match with Chase Kepner leading the Tigers with an 87. Will Orwig was close behind with an 89. In cross country, the Mifflin County boys beat Chambersburg, 28-29, and Central Dauphin East, 15-47. The Husky girls topped CD East, 15-50, but lost to Chambersburg, 18-43. And the Tuscarora Junior High girls basketball team knocked off Millersburg, 27-10. Mackenzie Bennett led the winners with 14 points.

A Nick Williams homer finally ended last night’s five-hour marathon with Miami. Fightin’s win it in 15, 9-8. Also last night, the Pirates lost in Milwaukee, 5-2. In other big league news, Cleveland tied the American League record and is one game shy of the modern-day record for consecutive wins. The Indians won their 20th straight ball game last night. They’ll try to keep it going today against visiting Detroit at 12:10 eastern. And the Dodgers clinched a playoff berth, snapping their 11-game losing streak to do it.

Altoona has yet to lose this postseason, sweeping Bowie in the Eastern League finals and now taking a one game to none lead on Trenton in the best-of-five championship series. Curve 2, Thunder 1. Game Two tonight, also in New Jersey.

And  Juniata College made a big jump in the women’s volleyball rankings, going all the way from 13 to six. The Eagles are 7-0 on the year.
